Michael Buble Hits Sydney

Michael Buble kicks off his Crazy Love tour this week.

Michael Buble has pledged financial support for victims of Australia’s recent natural disasters and is to meet Queensland Premier Anna Bligh to discuss ways he can help.

The Canadian superstar used a press conference in Sydney to announce an undisclosed donation before challenging other international artists to follow his lead.

Arriving for his sold-out national tour, Buble described victims of last month’s flooding as “amazingly resilient” and announced plans to meet Bligh ahead of his opening show in Brisbane on Friday.

“I want to get her opinion and ask her the best way I can help,” Buble told journalists in Sydney today.

“For me it would be a nice thing if I could challenge other artists who have been given so much by this country to give back.

“It’s amazing what you guys have gone through.”

Buble revealed he sat stunned with his Tasmanian-born assistant as the first pictures of the Queensland floods were broadcast in Toronto.

He immediately called his Australian tour manager Paul Dainty to ask how best he could help.

“It’s actually shocking how amazingly resilient you’ve been, how everybody’s banded together and I was deeply touched when I saw Anna Bligh on television.

“I’ve got people I consider family and friends here and you guys have given me a lot, so it was heartbreaking to see it happening.”

Buble, nicknamed the ‘Canadian Sinatra’, has sold 25 million records worldwide. His last album Crazy Love has already been certified five times platinum.

With almost a tenth of sales achieved here, Buble revealed his connection to Australia is incomparable to any other country – even his ancestral home of Italy.

“I don’t think I have the same relationship anywhere else that I have here in Australia,” he said.

“I think Australians get my sick sense of humour.”

Buble joked about reviving his boyband Old Kids On The Blockwith Molly Meldrum and Richard Wilkins. He also teased he would one day break P!nk’s record run of shows.

On this, his fourth tour, Buble will play 15 dates including a Valentine’s Day concert in Sydney.

Fiance Luisiana Lopilato will be absent that night, but the Argentinian model will be jetting in to meet Buble when he hits Melbourne.

The significance of the date considering his upcoming nuptials was clearly lost.

“I didn’t even know Valentine’s Day was coming up, is it coming up?,” he said in mock surprise, adding his forgetfulness of dates.

“Someone asked me the other day how I was getting ready for the wedding and I told them that I was taking myself to movies I didn’t want to see, turning the heating up in my apartment to 200 so I that would die, and sleeping on the edge of the bed with no sheets so I woke up cold.

“So I think I should be ready for marriage.”

Buble said he would be singing at his forthcoming wedding, but not as the main attraction.

That honour goes to Argentine-Venezuelan star Ricardo Montaner, apparently his fiance’s favourite singer.
